Kenzo Takada is one of
the most celebrated
in the world.
Kenzo Takada collaborates with MASUNAGA, a leading Japanese eyewear manufacture. MASUNAGA designed by Kenzo Takada sunglasses and optical frames combine vintage inspired elements with fashion forward contemporary design. Delicate engraving on the bridge, the bar and the temples are reminiscent of 1920’s jewelry details. The original rim is designed with the star motif from MASUNAGA GMS and Kenzo Takada’s family emblem Campanule flower.
1939 Born in Himeji City, Hyogo on February 27th.
1958 Studied at Bunka Fashion College, when it started to open the door to male students.
1961 Won the 8th SO-EN AWARDS, a gateway to the fashion world in Japan during his college days.
1965 Traveled across Asia and countries in Africa and settled in France.
1970 Opened “Jungle Jap” at Galerie Vivienne and presented his first fashion show.
1973 Made his debut under the brand name “KENZO”
1976 Moved to Victoires where current KENZO shop is located.
1984 Received the French award of Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
1998 Received the French award of Commandeur de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
1999 Received the “Time for Peace” award for fashion in New York.
1999 Awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon. He made way for new blood and retired from KENZO
Inspired by a Japanese Kimono,
Mr. Kenzo’s early, highly desirable collection
included easy to wear smocks, tunics,
oriental blouses and wide legged trousers.
Because of his refleshing use of color,
pattern and print, he was called “The magician of
colors” and made him one of the most important
fashion designers who led the Prêt-à-Porter in Paris.
